I WAS HONORED TO BE INVITED TO BE THE LEAD ARTIST IN THE FIRST EVER OLYMPIAN ARTIST-IN-RESIDENCE PROGRAM DURING THE 2018 WINTER OLYMPICS IN PYEONGCHANG, SOUTH KOREA. I DESIGNED A 15 PANEL PIECE FOR A PAINTING THAT SHOWCASED ALL 15 SPORTS IN THE WINTER OLYMPIC GAMES.
THEN, WITH THE HELP OF TWO OTHER OLYMPIAN ARTISTS, WE COLLABORATED WITH OLYMPIANS ON SITE IN THE OLYMPIC VILLAGE ON THE PAINTING. BY THE END OF THE GAMES, WE SET A WORLD RECORD FOR THE MOST NUMBER OF OLYMPIANS TO WORK ON A PAINTING: A TOTAL OF *112 OLYMPIANS FROM 39 COUNTRIES – INCLUDING IOC PRESIDENT THOMAS BACH, WOA’S PRESIDENT JOËL BOUZOU AND HSH PRINCE ALBERT LL OF MONACO. ALSO, TWO OF PIERRE DE COUBERTIN’S GREAT GREAT GRAND NIECES ADDED TO THE PAINTING.
